What to wear for our amazing portraits?
When you get your large canvas print up on the wall you don’t want the colors to clash with your home's decor. The color palette of your home is a beautiful place to start from an outfit you think you might want to hang on the walls of your home. If the color palette is composed of neutral colors, think about what colors would be complementary colors such as deep turquoise or maroon accent neutral colors very well. Mustard or melon outlook is modern and clean with a gray palette.
You want to choose clothing for your photoshoot that you feel most comfortable in and beautiful wearing if you aren’t comfortable chances are you won’t feel beautiful. Below you will find tips and suggestions on how to select outfits to capture beautiful portraits and results you will love.
Your clothing choices should be simple in color and style. Dark shaded clothing is more slimming in photos. Avoid prints and patterns, they draw the eye away from the face. Plaids and stripes can be distracting.
Choose solid color long-sleeved shirts and avoid bare shoulders or tank tops. Also, choose solid color long and flowing or mid-length maxi dresses or rompers are the perfect feminine touch and can cover up any areas you feel are problem areas. Accessorize with a chunky necklace and a statement bracelet and you have got your first outfit. Lace and pretty small flowered prints work well in maxi’s and rompers.
Jeans and a simple cotton shirt offer a contemporary clean look that will never go out of style. You can do a funky and fun look with a logo t-shirt as well if that's your everyday style. Adding a tailored jacket can make it modern and stylish. Adding a flannel tie about your waist can keep it casual. So it is your way for a look you will look back on favorably.
Let’s talk about timeless looks and textures. You've invested quite a bit of money for your portraits that will become treasurer daily heirlooms, imagine your son or daughter viewing these photos when they are in high school, the value of these images is princess. You want to choose clothes that have a timeless and classic look. Lace dresses, shirts, and tops with shorts or jeans. Chunky cardigans and off the shoulder sweaters can bring a romantic and soft vibe into the portraits.
Accessories are the bomb and so are layers. Start with your base layer of clothing: a solid maxi dress and solid colored top or jeans and then add layers of texture and accessories, bring in a short tweed jacket or blazer, add a floral scarf, add a chunky necklace, bracelets or a headband. Don’t force yourself to pay attention. A cute pair of wedges or boots can complete the outfit but maybe going barefoot would work as well depending on the location of your choosing.
Select a few pieces and then lay it all out and begin to edit. You can begin to put outfits together. Check out online tools like the thousands of Pinterest boards dedicated to ideas on what to wear for all kinds of portraits. Once you ‘ve pulled some options out of your close, begin to edit. Keep it simple and lay your clothing choice out on your bed or floors to get a grasp of the whole look.
We always welcome you to bring them in so that we can have fun helping you make your final selections. Have you checked out our style closet images on this page? Wait till you see it in person.
We are so excited to work with you and look forward to our day in front of our lens!

We understand that dance, cheer, choir, band, football, and other cherished pastimes are important parts of our high school career. We would love to capture images for you that reflect your love of the sport you spent so much time dedicating your heart to . Bring any and all uniforms and equipment for any activities you want to dedicate an outfit to. Maybe you are an artist. Bring an easel, paintings, brushes and paints. Perhaps make-up is your thing. Bring all your palettes, compacts, brushes and tools. We will make it work!
What about my car?
Yes, Be it a jeep, lifted truck convertible or maybe you've talked dad into letting you bring his classic hot rod that you helped rebuild or wax! We can definitely make that happen!
How soon should I book my session?
Diana Dyer's calendar typically books up at least 3 weeks in advance. During the busy fall season and on weekends we can book up as early as 6 - 8 weeks in advance. So you need to call right away to ensure you get your desired date!

Our surrounding areas, include southern dunes hills, rod iron fencing, stone wells, water falls, white fencing, playground, tall wheat grass, wood bridge, lily pad and water, tree lines, dock, lake, golf course, beautiful sunset and sunrises.
On-locations Session TO BE DISCUSSED!
Light backgrounds go best with white and pastel-colored clothing. Try to avoid light colors on darker backgrounds, this may overpower the image.
If your session includes some darker clothing choices, remember that dark clothing tends to look best on darker backgrounds. Dark colors are ideal for black-white photos as well as formal photography. We can help you decide the best backgrounds for your outfits.
Doesn’t matter what style of portraits you are here for it’s ALL ABOUT YOU! Each and every session is created specifically to bring out your best and capture your personality. Incorporate your hobbies, likes, sports, pets, cards… the sky’s the limit! You will have fun in the meantime! Just relax, be prepared to bring your ideas too!! I really enjoy getting to know you and making your session unique for you. Your senior portraits are designed completely around you and who you are and with your family in mind.
Arrive on time with your hair done, accessories packed, ready to go and clothing on hangers. Wrinkles make you look old right?:) Let’s make sure your clothing is ironed and looks good. It is a nightmare to retouch wrinkles. Oh and don’t forget a few pairs of shoes to go with your Rockin outfits. NO COOKIE CUTTER IMAGES HERE!!!
Props and Pets?
If you are doing themed portraits, don’t forget to bring your props like your car, musical instrument, any sports equipment, even your pet!
Glasses
It’s not always possible to remove all glare from your glasses but we will do our best. You may wish to be photographers without your glasses in some of the images.
Don’t try something new for your photoshoot
Hair
Plan to wear your hair in a style that you are comfortable with. Keep natural to your everyday life. Try to schedule your hair cut about two weeks prior to your session if possible. So may times you suffered through a “unique” hair cut and tried to hide under a hat? Well, I have. So make sure you have a couple of weeks to make sure you have your hair moving and grooving the way you like it . And be sure you bring your brush.
Makeup
If you choose to wear makeup, keep it light, natural-looking and fresh. Always wear base foundation, mascara, eye color, lip, and cheek color. But please avoid glitter and shine, which photographs like flashes of lightning on your face. NOT GOOD.
Bring your makeup bag to make sure that your lips and cheeks coordinate with your clothing.
Avoid excessive tanning or you might look like a leather chair! You will actually look better with natural color skin with your foundation to even everything out. You may want to whiten your teeth with whitening strips to make the most of your pearly whites too.
Nails
I recommend a light color or French Manicure for girls and don’t forget the toes! But if purple color rocks your world, go for it!
Formal and Informal Photography Ideas
Guys formal attire could include a simple sport coat, button-up shirt, a dress shirt and tie, weather jackets, slacks, jeans or a 3-piece suit. Leather jackets photograph well.
Oh, and if you need inspiration you can always check out the hottest retailers online or in the mall to see what todays’ seniors are wearing if you're a senior.
For girls, a formal dress from a special occasion, shirt, blouse or sweater.
Informal portraits allow for more variety = your clothing should reflect who you are!
Ideas Include
Senior or not check these styles out: A casual outfit that suits your style, an outfit that includes pieces with today’s latest trends, cap and gown, sports or cheerleading uniform, sporting equipment, letter jacket, art supplies, skateboard, musical instrument, or prom dress. And lastly, bring your parents, siblings, best friend, boyfriend, or girlfriend for group pictures that will last a lifetime for any portrait.
Especially for Guys
Be sure to check your facial hair before your session. If you are clean-shaven with your MARK111 out for a spin just before you arrive. If you have a glorious goat-tee, trim it up to look spiffy and neat. Don’t forget to check your neck as many guys have stubble and nubs here. LOOK YOU BEST!!
